A business directory that earns its place
Members who run something want other members to know. A business directory turns that into a reason to keep a membership current — provided listings are checked before they appear and the categories mean something.
Listings with an approval gate
A member submits their business; it waits for review; an administrator publishes it. Nothing appears on a page carrying your organisation's name because someone filled in a form. The owner can keep editing their own listing afterwards without needing the blanket permission, which is the ownership rule the whole panel follows.
Categories you control
Administrators define and reorder the category list, so it fits your membership rather than a generic taxonomy. Managing categories is its own grant, separate from approving listings — the person who moderates submissions is not automatically the person who restructures the directory.
Perks, and who they are for
A listing can carry an offer for fellow members. That is often the single clearest answer to "what does my subscription get me?", and it costs your organisation nothing to facilitate.
Linked to the people behind it
A listing shows its associated members, and those members' profiles link back. The join exists because both live in the same database — there is no nightly sync to go stale.

Can a business be listed if its owner leaves?
That is your call. Listings are owned by member records, so when a membership lapses you can unpublish automatically or leave it and review later.
Can we charge for a listing?
Not as a separate product today. Most organisations include listings in membership, which is also the cleaner incentive.
Is the directory public?
It can be. Public business listings are a genuine draw for a public site, and you decide whether the whole directory or only selected listings are visible to non-members.
