Member directory

A member directory people are willing to be listed in

The directory is usually the first thing a member looks for and the first thing they worry about. Metrolo answers both: everyone is findable by the people they want to be found by, and nobody has to publish a phone number to be part of the network.

Search that survives a large roll

Free-text search across names, employers and roles, combined with filters for cohort, chapter, location, skills and any custom field your organisation defines. Results paginate rather than loading five thousand rows into a browser, and filters are debounced so the list is not re-querying on every keystroke. The filter state lives in the URL, so a useful view can be bookmarked or sent to a colleague.

Privacy decided by the member, field by field

Every field on a profile carries its own visibility tier: public, members-only, private or hidden. A member might publish their name and employer, share their email with fellow members, keep their phone number to themselves and hide their home address entirely. The tier is applied when the record is loaded from the database, so a hidden field is genuinely absent from the response — not merely styled out of the page or filtered in the browser where anyone can look.

Custom fields that behave like real fields

Add the fields your organisation actually keeps — house, discipline, ordination year, membership grade, professional registration — and they appear in the directory's filters alongside the built-in ones. They are not a free-text blob appended to the bottom of a profile. Each definition sets its own type and its own default visibility, and members can override that within the limits you allow.

Exports for the office, not for the internet

Administrators with the right grant can export a filtered view as CSV for a mail merge or a reconciliation. That export is a permission of its own — `export_member_csv` — so being able to browse the directory does not imply being able to download it. Every export is written to the audit log with who ran it and what filter produced it.

FAQ

Member directory — questions

If yours is not here, ask on a call. We answer specifics.

Can members opt out of the directory entirely?

Yes. A member can set every field to hidden, which removes them from browse and search results. They keep their account, their tickets and their membership; they simply are not listed.

Is the directory visible to the public?

Only the fields a member marks public, and only if you enable public browsing at all. Most organisations keep the directory behind the member login and use the public site for events and news instead.

Can we import our existing member list?

Yes. If you can export names, contact details and whatever custom attributes you keep, we map them to fields and custom field definitions during onboarding.

Bring the awkward case — the exception your constitution requires, the thing your current system cannot do. That is the useful half of a demo.
